What Should Church Be Like?
October 16, 2009 0 CommentsFor those of you who attend a church I ask this question - What
should church be like? What is the purpose for it? Many would say
that church is to worship, others might say it is to learn about
God but the question is what do you say?
I wonder what God would say? If He were here in a human body living
in this day and age what would He say church should be like? God
loves fellowship, that's why He created people to begin with so I
think that /he would really like churches that are friendly. You
know, where people smile and say hi to each other and when they ask
"how are you" they actually want to know.
Another thing that I think that God would like is to have regular
people participate a little. I attended certain churches for years
and many of the people I met I never really knew much about. Then
they were asked to share for 5 or 10 minutes and I felt like I
actually knew them; and I wasn't the only one!
I think that God would like churches or groups of people who want
to make a difference in other peoples lives and in the world.
Imagine getting all these people united for something good! It's
powerful... Imagine the brilliant ideas that could come out of this
group.
There are many other things that I think that God would really like
but for now I will just name one of them and it is honesty. Now I
know that people are not going to jump up in the middle of a church
service and start confessing their mistakes; nor do I think that
would be useful to anyone. The honesty I am talking about is with
each other. No one has walked through life on this earth without
making many mistakes along the path. Should we hide them? Every day
people ask "how are things going?" and people say "fine" when they
are not fine at all! They may be dealing with problems and sorrows
beyond your comprehension but are uncomfortable about mentioning
any of them because they don't want to be seen as irreligious or a
bad christian or any other religion.
We have an opportunity to be God's ambassadors on earth. If we
believe that God is good and God is love wouldn't it make sense
that He would like to be a part of something that is doing good
things out of love? Sometimes people, and churches tend to be
very judgmental of others yet never seem to see their own faults.
To them I think that God might say - leave that to Me!
There is much sadness, turmoil and stress in the world today. I
think that God would like churches that cheer people up. Why not
help Him? You never know, He could be sitting next to you!
